When you try to look for answers for a question like this, you need to know some hard hitting facts. These facts are not there to discourage you or scare you into not getting an iguana as a pet. They make very good pets for several reasons.

Iguanas can live up to 20 years with proper care. This care includes feeding; they are herbivores and feed on fruits, vegetables, and grass. They also need calcium supplements for their bones. If the feeding and environment is not properly taken care of, they can develop medical conditions that affect their bones, mouths, and organs.

One reason they make good pets is that they are well-behaved. It can take you up to a year to train your iguana. Even potty training is possible through a tubing method. Iguanas are trainable if you do it properly and consistently. These pets will learn to trust you.

However, this does not mean they are safe to be around little children. Iguanas can die from stress and they cannot take harsh training methods.

With a long life span, iguanas can go through personality changes just like a child when becoming a teenager. With little children around, iguanas may lash out, just as a surly teenager would. Iguanas do have sharp teeth and a long tail. They can grow as long as 6 feet!

Iguanas are solitary animals so you don’t have to worry about getting another iguana for company. This is another reason why iguanas make good pets.

The best thing for any pet owner desiring an iguana is to do their diligent research. There is more to it than meets the eye when it comes to adopting an iguana as a pet.
