Before we share some yummy and tasty recipes we would like to mention some ingredients that should NOT be in a healthy treat.

Even through a treat is just a treat, if you make the treat yourself, why add ingredients are not good for you furry friend?

Here are some things you should never add when making either treats, or food for your cat or dog:

  • Corn
  • Wheat
  • Soy
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Garlic

Recipes For Pet Treats

You can use just about any type of meat or organ meat and make them into a healthy treat by either dehydrating the meat in a dehydrator, (around $40 at Walmart) or by baking for several hours in the oven at a low temp.

Here are some suggestions:

Chicken, Turkey, Beef, Venison, Heart, Liver, Salmon, Sardines, Mackerel, Shrimp, Mussels.

Canned fish can be used as long there is no salt added. Organic meats can be used to make an awesome organic pet treat!

You will want to slice the meat in very thin slices, baking in a single layer to desired doneness. The baking time will vary depending on the meat, the size of the chunks or slices and also your location and altitude.

Chicken Jerky Treats for Dogs (And Cats too!)

chicken jerky for dogsDoes your dog love chicken jerky? If you have read the labels lately you may have been alarmed to see that most chicken jerky comes from China.... I don't know about you, but we do not give anything to our pets that is made in China, or have ingredients from China.

Much better is making your own chicken jerky.

1.Partially freeze the chicken. This will make it much easier to slice.

2. Slice the chicken in thin slices.

3. Bake in 200 degree oven for several hours. The time will vary, you can also get the jerky more or less chewy depending on the amount of time it has been baked.

4. When done, allow to cool in the oven, then store in jars in the fridge.

Remember, if your pet is not used to getting treats, too many of these yummy treats can cause an upset stomach, even though they are very healthy.
